Stuck in King's Quest ZZT 2

I'm new to the ZZT community and I am stuck in King's Quest ZZT 2 inside of the tower. I found a walktrough on this site which says "Enter the tower & open the door. Look at the nearest corpse. Go up the stairs. Enter the main room. Save & enter the passage. Beat him." When I go up the stairs & enter the main room, I am unable to enter the passage and fight my opponent. I'm not sure if I'm doing something wrong or if the game is flawed. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If you're talking about in the first file where there's a dead ogre, there's supposed to be a passage that appears below some object in the black area in the right corner. The passage can be reached it's just black. There's an object that's supposed to make it appear after it taunts you. You can enter the passage without it appearing, if you just hunt around in that little black area.
