ZZT 4.0

Post by Furry Jesus Freak »

Sorry, WiL, but I am not in the liking of the results. =(((((
For you see, zzt.exe is beautiful, but has one TREMENDOUS ERROR: the game crashes in dark rooms! (also, i like the water sound. I don't want it gone. =()
So I tried the other executable, and it seems to work, but all the pretty sounds are gone, which makes me sad. ;_; Can you plz fix the dark-room-crashing-bug? (And bring back the water noise?) Thanks, and HAPPY THANKSGIVING EVERYONE!
oh, and btw, plz vote as to who should be tiny tim everyone, u have 7 days thx.

Sorry, WiL.

If ZZTers wanted a better ZZT, they would have switched to Megazeux, or ZIG, or whatnot. That didn't happen; people have preferred and will prefer the original. The conclusion? ZZT 4.0 is not only unnecessary, it's a bad thing to use. If you think, "I'm gonna use it anyway, and if you don't like it, you don't have to use it," you're falling into a trap. If you use features that are exclusive to ZZT 4.0 in your games, the majority of ZZTers will not be able to play it. Sure, they could upgrade, but why bother? There are other games out there that do work with their preferred version of ZZT, and those will be the games that will be played.

In case I was not clear enough, do not use ZZT 4.0. You'll be sorry. Please join me in a boycott against ZZT 4.0.

I could rant forever, but I am a Pastamancer, and I have some universe altering to do.

I was just going to ask about that whole backward-compatability thing that Quantum was kind enough to rant against.

I guess I will not be using ZZT 4.0 then. Because I like the water sound too, and the "Fake Wall" message only happens like once per time you run ZZT anyway

If you're game really needs zzt 4.0, just put a message saying so, otherwise it is assumed both programs will run it.

This isn't the end of the world, guyz. Global warming is.

So anyway, isn't this like the eighth zzt 4.0 to come out or something?

Zack: Preppy, charming and totally gorgeous! Zach is a schemer who would rather stay up all night figuring how to get out of an exam than studying for it!

Slater: The All-American athlete with dimples to die for! Captain of Bayside's football team, Slater is a chauvinist who -- believe it or not -- has an emotional side. What a combo!

Screech: Class clown and electronic genius! When Screech turns on the power, the fun never stops!

It won't be the end of the world, but it's a brand new way to make it harder for people to view your work. Convenience is important; I'm sure that there are plenty of good Megazeux games, but they haven't motivated me to install Megazeux.

And I like you! <3

But if the author really needs more than 20kb for a board, I think it's best he doesn't compromise.

Still though, you're right that people should try to make it work in 3.2 before requiring 4.0.

So when is zzt going to allow more than 220kb for a world?

Quantum you know I love you but this isn't like adding 300 new commands to ZZT-OOP it's just raising a few numbers so we can make some better shit. :gay:
