Only one question: can anyone else get this to work?

I did. I can run zzt pretty well in XP without dosbox (some of the sounds are funky).
it works pretty well. I wish I could have used the keypad numbers since they're closer to the cursor keys. Maybe you could make it read a config file so users could define their own key sets and flags.

Note:
The compiler is buggy and produces nothing of value if the directory structure isn't something super simple like C:\compiler\
The 1::, 2::, 3::, and 4:: lines are where keys 1-4 are defined. Replace with your favorite keyboard keys, recompile, va voom.
