I've got a weird-ass idea for an RPG battle, but I'm not sure what I'll do for a plot. Probably a pile of HARBLEHALGKDHFLSKDJFHG about something or other.

A few boards left.

I'm writing the text file now.

I plan to finish every board required to make the game, then improve on them as much as I can as well as fixing the whole plot in. Right now it's basically just a mess of boards which I have to find ways to fit together.

Other than that it's going great!

Edit: I'll still be working on this long into the night and through the next day.

1 Crush your enemies

2 See them driven before you

3 Hear the lamentations of their women

Wow, brain is like a total blank for two days like cRaZy. It's because I'm saturated with another project and it's a bit hard to start fresh. Can't say I won't try though.

Engine done, first board done. It may take longer than I was hoping with each board, since (without getting into specifics) the engine makes me go over a lot of things with each board multiple times. Historically, my WoZ progress has usually gone like this:

Step 1: I have an awesome idea!
Step 2: I bit off way more than I can chew with this complicated engine and whatnot! I've spent over half the allotted time already just on the first one or two boards! If the pace doesn't miraculously improve, there's no way I will possibly finish!
Step 3: Huh, how about that. The pace somehow miraculously improved. I guess I'm done!

I'm in the middle of step two right now. :agh:

raze is a show in for this topic.

I've got a pretty good idea, I think. The programming shouldn't be too bad. My problem is deciding where to spend my time graphically. Coding goes pretty fast most of the time. It takes me a while to finish a picture.

And for my idea I need to draw a girl :(

I work a lot of this weekend. Saturday night to Sunday is my day to shine. Hopefully I can get my laptop to our internet connection in my buddy's room.

I think I'm going to do what I usually do in these things and drop out and offer to judge instead.

Man, I have no idea where I am compared to you all. I'm afraid my tastes in ZZT game design might be too retro.

I have a very stupid rules question: obviously the .zip filename and the text file have my username in them, but do I need to keep the actual .zzt anonymous? Or do the judges not care about that? Memories of team numbers are slowly coming back to me....

My game isn't really bad graphically, but the plot and maybe flow of the game (unless I do something) will bring it down.

I should've waited a little and actually thought of something before I jumped into the editor. Now I have a remake of some old old game I made a year ago, but re-made for what I make games like nowadays. So... I really feel like I could've done better if I would've taken the time to think up something good.

I'm ruined! :ssj:

Edit: 18 boards done.

Edit 2: Are we allowed to post screenshots here?

My game is mostly plot and I'm making everything up as I go. Even I don't know what's going to happen next!

Edit: How do I make text white? Also, the 9 flag limit is just set flags, right? I can have as many flags cleared and set as I want, right?

Dangit!

I'm off to a shoddy start.

First kev edit (As far as I know I'm allowed to use that right?) is buggering up so that now, if I have any board information I need to edit (Linking rooms mostly) I now have to edit it from zzt itself.

Then, my mom goes home and decides to freak out because she can't find the cat. (So I had to go home and find him.)

Then my ride went back to his place leave not just my game but all my cloths, books, bedding, and everything else I might need back at HIS place.

Arrg!

But I have a few ideas at least so if/when I get back I have something to program.

So far I only have 4 boards done. 2 of which you'd probably never ever really see or use again anyway. At least all the boards I've done so far look nice (well compared to what I've done previously, any game I've even tried has only been made from the board editor in ZZT.).

Although, its still it has the potential to be the best I've ever done. (And defiantly the best I've ever submitted to Z2, mostly because its the only one I'll have submitted.)

But at least I can look on the brightside. If I don't get it done during the contest, at least I can work really hard on it and submit it afterwards as just a regular game.

But I do have a cool trick I hope to be able to implement. Not sure if anybody else has thought of it before, but I found it out on my own. Its cool.

I'm also wondering. For the games that are submitted, after the contest, are they all included for people to download and try? Or is it just the best one(s) that are included?

ShadowMage: Yeah, KevEdit and ZZTAdvancEditor are allowed (and, IIRC, recommended!)

bustaballs: You can have as many flags cleared as you want- you can only have nine (or was it ten?) set at a time, though. If you set a tenth (an eleventh?) flag, I think the most recent flag gets cleared.

Madtom: Umm, is it too late to drop out and offer to judge? My creativity is all bltkzzzzzzzft right about now =(

My entry's going alright, but I've got a lot of boards left to add. My game isn't terribly complex, but I'm still finding it a little confusing at points.

I'm also concerned that my game doesn't seem to have nearly enough crime in it. :\

most of it's done except for the last three rooms, the ending, and an intermediary part../ it's nothing revolutionary but i think it's ok. i had fun making it at least.

ahhhhhhhhhhh I'm tired, r;ise and shine in the morning eh
