hey
hey, everybody. i was on wikipedia today, looking at pictures of megatsunamis (you know, regular busywork and upkeep at my insanely stimulating summer job), when i came upon a memory. ZZT! "oh my lord, i must search ZZT and read about it and remember my young days as an amateur programmer!" i thought to myself. wow... i think it was 10 years ago when i was really huge into ZZT programming. i was probably 11 or 12 years old, if i'm remembering this right. i had so much fun with this program, and reading articles and looking at ZZT code was making me feel super super warm and fuzzy inside, so i decided i'd come back and try to make some games, and play a lot of others.
i guess this is the dreaded newb "i'm new here!!" topic. so... sorry.
question--if i want to reacquaint myself with ZZT-oop and just have a nice stash of things to start from, what should i download? i don't have the internet at home, so i need to get all i need for the evening and throw it on a disc or something. what do i need to get up and running again? i'm guessing ZZT 3.2, the encyclopedia, and a sack of games.
thanks for listening to me babble!

Many point to "ZZT Syndromes". Look at the page's featured games for starts. The encylopedia is a good idea. Also on the page among the links is Game of the Month list back when that was going.
Also try an external editor. There are two, get them both if you can, in case you don't like one or you have problems.

ZZT 3.2
ZZT Encyclopaedia Online
Featured Games - 22 reasonably good games.
MadTom's Pick - This award shut down a couple of years ago, but it's still a nice list of some of the better contemporary ZZT games. If any links are broken, replace "the-underdogs.org" with "belsambar.net".
Game of the Month and Classic Game of the Month awards - Another shut down award, but more good games.
You'll also probably also want either STK or an external editor like KevEdit.
Welcome aboard, and if you have any questions, feel free to ask!
