Far Cry.
Okay. So I've finally ordered a new computer, and it's going to be shipping in next week, which I really can't wait for. It's got a 3.2GHZ Pentium 4, 1GB ram, Radeon 9600 XT 256MB video card, and a nice 200GB hard drive. With all that said...
Does anybody already own Far Cry? I heard that the game chomps up your computer unless it's really good and only then you can hit the 'VERY HIGH' settings. I'm probably going to buy a copy, since reviews have been great for it, and the game just looks and sounds fantastic.
Any suggestions?

Cheesecake Avenger is probably lying, because honestly. Why would you for 3 Gigs of RAM? That's just stupid. 1 GB is either two sticks of 512 or one stick of 1024. Two, I could understand, two sticks of 1GB. But to have 3GB you'd need a minimum of three sticks. And since most RAM is now dual-channel it is utterly idiotic to have a non-even number of RAM sticks.
Fuck.
And seriously, even I don't need 600 GB of HD-space.

anyway since we're talking computer specs, my dell arrived today
i got the following for £557 (about $1000 or so? beats me):
the dimension 3100!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
150gb hard drive (7200rpm)
512mb dual channel ddr 400mhz memory
pentium iv 2.8ghz processor
soundblaster sound card and some graphics card or other, i forget now
17" flatscreen monitor
combined printer/scanner/photocopier (plus printer cable, which is nice because normally one would cost £12, plus cartridges)
6 usb ports (no a: drive though, floppy disks are a thing of the past)
48x/32x dvd/cd-rom reader/rewriter
broadband support, which i am currently using
windows xd home edition (the only aspect between this computer and my little laptop in which there is no change)
microsoft works 7 (oxymoron lol)
3 year warranty
i think it is a thing of beauty. maybe not the greatest computer ever to walk the earth but it's excellent so far, and it will be better once i get my old files off my laptop. i will have to wait until the 512mb pen drive i bought from amazon (£18) arrives before i can do that though
so did i do well, or am i wrong in my excitement?

I have a Compaq Armada E500 with 256MB RAM, a 20GB HDD and a 600MHz Pentium III processor. I use Win2k on it. I've never needed anything more, really. I keep it optimized and very tidy, and I reformat every six months or so.
Granted, Photoshop is a little slow, and I won't be playing Civ4 anytime soon, but those are really the only problems I have with it. I really don't like how caught up people can get in the upgrade cycle. Hell, I'd probably be on Linux if I could download the images without my connection dying.
