It seems unlikely that this deeply unsatisfactory situation will be resolved by a new attempt to answer the old question; instead, as has been suggested by some of the most thoughtful students, we should expect to find that some part of the conceptual landscape in which this problematic entity resides must be reconstructed before it will come into focus.

glad i view this site with images off now, but yeah, i was totally gonna do an entry.. but i never got an e-mail telling me teh topic so i checked this forum, again.. there was no site for it, and i know you know html. also communicating to those who don't lead the trade anymore, con them into supporting.. you don't seem to have done your part! i was gonna do mine, but like, yeah..
i was totally doing nothing, and it felt good, and ryan f is my witness! for he agreed on agreeing to my idea.
Yeah, I had the plot and everything! something about the species in the toilet not flushing all the way, meaning they had indigestion. It was gonna be of one of the greatest epics ever told, EVER.. But... nobody will know for certain now! You may want to cry, if you want to you can, but remember that you're a groovy outlet and you don't have to!

This wasn't a problem of the federal level of z2.
It was the fucking local mayor's shit job.
He had buses full of topics and didn't use them.

My opinion:
There wasn't enough warning before the competition, consequently there wasn't enough hype (in fact there wasn't any hype). Also this meant I'd already got plans for the weekend in question (I assume I wasn't the only one).
The topics Nazis and Exception were retarded and uninspiring respectively. I wasn't even sure what exception was when I read the word, and I'm like a complete genious.
There was nothing quirky or interesting about the competition (no side competition, no humourous prize, no website).
From previous competitions it's quite apparent that only about a fifth of the people who say they'll enter will actually produce something for judging. I think this time there was about 5 people who said they'll enter in the first place.
I don't mean to detract from Kjorteo's effort, if he has won, but for a more successful WoZ try offering pie next time.

I will agree that this WoZ had no hype or promotion whatsoever compared to, say, MadTom's, and even MadTom's is regarded as a failure when looked back on today due to its low turnout. Still, MadTom at least got a site and hyped the thing up for months, trying as hard as he could to get people interested, while this one was kind of "Hey WoZ in like six days, anyone in?" on the fora.
It would be hypocritical of me to complain about the topics, since I was able to work fascism into my game fairly well. However, barring the fact that I could have conceivably been screwed under any other hypothetical topics, I will say that using Fascism right after MadTom used Authority is a little suspect, and I still don't know what 'Exception' as a topic is supposed to mean.
I hate to slam WoZ because hey, it's WoZ. It gets me off my ass and into actual making things mode. Since I'll probably never work on Adventure of Sam, WoZ contests are my way out of "I've been ZZTing since forever but you've never heard of me because I haven't actually made anything" syndrome. Even if I win just because I'm the only one who tried, at least I made something that you can play. Still, I do think this particular one could have been better if it had had more of a promotional push.

TTTPPP: Just be quiet. I don't like you, and you've been a complete dick to me during the past few months. Leave me alone.
The main reason why I chose those topics was because I wanted to get away from an "autism" or "n*****" topic; I was trying to do you all a favor. Concerning the other flaws, well it's my first goddamned contest okay? Enough said. Next time I hold a contest (which is somewhat likely because I'm one of a shinking number of people who still cares about ZZT), I'll be far less naive. Again, just leave me alone.

Doesn't tradition have the WoZ champion reserving the right to host the next one? The reason you got this one is because I flat-out turned down MadTom's offer to host after winning the last one, since I was way too busy with work and stuff. If I win this one, I may end up hosting the next, because I have a few ideas which I think may get people off their asses a little.Ando wrote:Next time I hold a contest (which is somewhat likely because I'm one of a shinking number of people who still cares about ZZT),
Then again, if I end up winning two in a row, that probably means I'm a good actual contributor, and removing me from the contestant list wouldn't be helpful to the overall health of WoZ. If that's the case, maybe we should find someone who wasn't going to make anything good anyway and let them host, and I'll just tell them all my ideas for how to make the contest not suck.
I don't know, I guess whichever option everyone else thinks would be more beneficial overall.

Ando said he'd have something for us in about a week.
Edit: I will note that I am very much looking forward to seeing what people made! One of the perks of having one's own website with an arcade wing is that I released my entry already, but getting to play other people's stuff is half the fun of a good WoZ.[/url]

Kjorteo I meant another type of contest, like a 24hozzt.
As for the judging, I'll contact Quantum_P soon and get the entries and judging done by around next week (I would do it sooner but I'm a senior psychology major and time isn't really a luxury that I have).
In retrospect, I made quite a few mistakes in hosting this contest, but I don't think that it was a complete failure. Kjorteo's entry was of very good quality, and Nedemai's and Dr. Dos's weren't too bad, either. This contest definitely could have been much better, but eh live and learn I suppose. And I definitely will.
