Moment of Lame

Post by TTTPPP »

Hi Guys! Just wondering if you've had a moment of fame, and if so what was it?

Mine was getting mentioned on a national radio station (Radio 1) for playing water fight chess.

Art entry junk, newspaper a bunch of times, that boring stuff. Seriously I don't care about fame. Being looked at and the center of attention is nerve raking.

People:"OMG, that's the coolest art I ever seen."
Zeph:"go 'way."

i'm safe from being featured in newspapers 99% of the time because i'm too unremarkable, i don't break the law in spectacular fashion, i don't write letters to things and i never enter contests, ever. one time when i got some exam results a few years back someone tried to take a photo of me opening them, and my response was along the lines of "i have to go stand over here now. don't follow me".

although i was recently in the local rag while i was in france a couple of times on account of someone covering the volunteer thing

but that was france so it doesn't count.

I won Star Letter on a PC gaming mag. Did I win anything? FUCK NO. I'm still pissed.

I got letter of the month in a PC Magazine just recently. I won a Lexmark P915 Printer.

I've also been on the radio, read a poem during memorial day and was in the newspaper for some mandatory volunteer-project.

Here's one I'll share that's somewhat relevant to computers: I was one of five top-scoring kids in a computer skills competition when I was about 12. We got in the paper for that, and I was quoted as saying that I "spent a lot of time browsing menus and help systems".

This was back when the idea of assigned computer rooms in state New Zealand schools was a really big thing, and the government was getting quite excited that a lot of kids didn't actually need the classes at all.

I still have the article and it'd be worth scanning for comedic value, but I don't remember the interview or the photo, or anything about the four other finalists. Actually I don't remember a whole lot about anything beyond about two years ago. I have a dreadful long-term memory.

I couldn't think of one at first but now I remember this one tiiimmmmeee...

I was out once in a parking lot and some guy with a microphone and his cameraman came up to me and he says he's with the local news and says 'We're doing a segment called "What's bugging you?" and we want you to tell us if anything is bugging you.'

And I says to him '...Nothing.'

'Nothing is bugging you?'

'No, nothing.'

And he left. It sure was a weird experience. Never did see if that got on the air.

When I was on the high school orchestra, I got some local tv coverage. I stood out because I was the only bass player. I'm sure I've smashed some solos into the living rooms of old, bored townspeople in my time.

I also got a mention in the local paper for varsity tennis.

Haha, I remember a good one!

It was about two years ago when I was still going to that shitty old community college in my former hometown. There was this young woman with some camera people who was interviewing one of my old friends about gay marriage (it was during that time). Being the total douchebag that I am, I told her that "I have something to say about it :|" and then she interviewed me. Turns out that a day or so later my interview instead of my friend's was aired, and right underneath my big blabbering face was the caption "GUY ANDERSON - SUPPORTS GAY MARRIAGE". Fortunately I didn't get beaten up for that, but it could have been close! IT COULD HAVE BEEN CLOSE.

I was in the newspaper for being so smart
It seems unlikely that this deeply unsatisfactory situation will be resolved by a new attempt to answer the old question; instead, as has been suggested by some of the most thoughtful students, we should expect to find that some part of the conceptual landscape in which this problematic entity resides must be reconstructed before it will come into focus.
