It depends on a lot of things I guess, but one could probably point to Master Raze. By today's standards I think that his games are pretty good, and he seems to make quite a lot of them.

Wasn't Raze universally hated by the whole community at one time? I've read several old posts that reflect this.

Also Quantum is fairly active, having made that well-made pinball game about half a year ago.

A few senior members of the community actively dislike him, but he's part of Mirror Image Games and as I say his releases tend to have some quality. He's won himself a couple of MadTom's Picks.

I don't think he's ever made anything truly brilliant, but then not many ZZTers have.

I actually joined MIG about a week or so ago! I'll be releasing plenty of games under the MIG logo.

Raze was very talented. But he seemed to be in eternal adolescence and that got annoying. I think it was more the concept of vices that he was fascinated with than any actual pleasure he derived from them.

I hope this made sense. I'm not good at putting things into words, in case you haven't noticed.

I remember a while ago I commended Raze publically on the main page for his skill and output. I like quite a few of his games, particularly Thug Life 2.

Actually, just thinking about it now, I'd posit that Raze is probably the most prolific author with any skill worth a damn in the community's history, albeit closely followed by Viovis and drac0. Viovis' vast volume of stuff is mostly either brilliantly abstract or utterly incomprehensible, and drac0 also made a lot of stuff, and from what I hear a great deal of it wasn't actually ever released - that 'Everything!' compilation he made apparently only scratched the surface. Zenith's also got quite a bit, and so does TonyTesta/BlueMagus.

Then again, you've got authors like tucan or cly5m who because of their perfectionism didn't release a slew of work, but what they did release turned out brilliant.

i agree with everything oof has said in this thread

also raze went through this phase of ending everything all his posts like this:

:ohno: OLD MAN: wassaaaap!!!!!!???????????!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

this got extremely annoying extremely fast and eventually he got banned (maybe by me, i forget now. either me or moose). then he returned as "evil nadir" about five times. at least one of these occasions involved spamming the forums. so yeah i think we had pretty good reason to not like him at least a little bit.

his games weren't bad though.

zzturbo and bluemagus both put out an impressive array of entertaining zzt games. shigesato, on the other hand, was pretty much worthless.

oh and is "insanity" by draco on the site? i forget. it was his second game, better than hollywood hooker (the game that made the zzt community wet itself) but overshadowed by teen priest a whole lot. funny that both games were released in 1998; HoHo was panned as trash for having sex and naughty words in it while teen priest was hailed as an instant classic. a lot changed that year!

He's NOT a real doctor!

<Dr_Dos> I have a MASTERS degree!

In ZZT!
It seems unlikely that this deeply unsatisfactory situation will be resolved by a new attempt to answer the old question; instead, as has been suggested by some of the most thoughtful students, we should expect to find that some part of the conceptual landscape in which this problematic entity resides must be reconstructed before it will come into focus.

Mild necromancy but couldn't Appliance be considered to be one of the most active right now? Although he hasn't been seen since like December or so.
