I like that one, Stak.

Let's see, now ...

KevEdit (kev-ed-it) prop. n. A long-standing and popular ZZT editor made by Kev Vance, in recent versions with assistance from bitman. It is written in C, and is available (http://kevedit.sourceforge.net/) in DOS, Windows, and Linux native formats. Like CyQ's ZZTAE (q.v.), it uses a similar format to the ZZT Editor, and is in particular esteemed for its most recent incarnations (v0.5.0, December 5, 2003) in which the program was drastically improved, including the incorporation of a cut-and-paste feature. Which of these editors is superior (or indeed, if an advanced editor is appropriate at all) is at times a contentious issue. See also: ZZTAE, Alternate Editors.

ZZTAE (zee-zee-tee-ay-ee, zed-zed-tay etc.) prop. n. A popular ZZT editor made by CyQ, in QBASIC (http://www.geocities.com/cyqzzt). The ZZT Advanced Editor has a wide userbase, and is acclaimed for its ease of use, attractive interface, and advanced editing options. It uses a similar system of editing to ZZT, as does kvance's KevEdit (q.v.), which is widely considered a more advanced but rather less user-friendly editor. Which of these editors is superior (or indeed, if an advanced editor is appropriate at all) is at times a contentious issue. Development at present (17 December, 2003) is at a standstill. See also: KevEdit, Alternate Editors.

Okay, here's the situation.

I'm about ready to release the first update of the ZZT/MZX Lexicon, but I'm _still_ a bit short on the ZZT side. These are the terms I haven't gotten around to giving a definition (nor does it seem likely that I'd do the subjects justice), but have picked for subjects:

<i>#darkdigital (alt. #dd)
#poopland
Game of the Month (alt. GotM)
zzt.org (alt. torg)</i>

Anyone with the will to make a thorough entry would have their efforts much-appreciated.

As for the Lexicon itself, I've pretty much changed all existing entries, and I've added about... 30-some new ones. I've deleted around 3-4 über-old entries (like Z97, Pock, etc.).

MadTom: I'll add the definitions for Z2, KevEdit and ZZTAE once I get internet access on my personal computer (should be tommorow, spending ~$10 on a large network cable because my dad's a cheap bastard).

Stak: FAIL was one of the terms I already covered. I like my wiseass definition better, so "thanks for the effort" is all I can say. =( On the other hand, in goes your ravebaron entry!

#Poopland; Channel owned by Draco and |3itch in 2000. Subdivision of #Misanthropy. Infamous because everyone who came into the channel got access. Died due to lack of interest.

Is this any good?

CGotM (Classic Game of the Month) (cee-gee-oh-tee-em) prop. n. See GotM.

GotM (Game of the Month) (gee-oh-tee-em) prop. n. A long-standing on-site award for the best ZZT game uploaded to the prevailing ZZT archive at the time. It was originally conceived by zzt.org (q.v.) in 1998 as honouring any noteworthy game on a monthly basis, but was later changed to reflect only the uploads of that particular month, with the addition of a Classic GotM to honour classic games at the same time. The award was very successful and the complete list of GotMs given boasts some of the most famous games in ZZT's history, including the favourites Rhygar and Burger Joint (q.v.). Z2 (q.v.) continued the award after zzt.org's demise with comparable success.

The popularity and coveted nature of the Game of the Month contest unfortunately meant it ran into some problems, when the judges, Hercules (q.v.) and Hydra (q.v.) were contested. In an effort to keep GotM alive and fairly judged, a public voting system was combined with a site-staff decision to elect each month's winner, to minimise the influence of buddy voting1. Sadly, however, ultimately no system seemed to quell the frustrations associated with selecting the award, and it was laid to rest by a majority Z2 staff vote in June 2002. The last GotM award given, in May 2002, was to Wong Chung Bang's game The Mercenary.

The void many felt was left after the expiry of the GotM was filled by the inauguration of a Featured Games (q.v.) archive on Z2, a mutual idea of craNKGod (q.v.) and Fishfood (q.v.), and a smaller-scale monthly award judged by MadTom.

I've included the Burger Joint thing there, since you said you were thinking about giving that game an entry. If you've changed your mind, just remove that clause. I also don't mind if you want to remove that last clause about the MTP, I just thought it might be useful to include.

Speaking of MTP, are you going to update the awards anytime soon?
