I was starting to imagine ZZT Online as the ZZT.EXE file filtered through a plug-in somehow so you could play it in your browser without having to download it. It'd be cool if you could work that out so you could pick any games from Z2 to attach to your username and play them online.

I remember Adv (creator of BANG!) was working on something similar to this. I'm not sure if he's continuing with it though. So you may aswell work on it, a little competition won't hurt.

For over the year I've had this one theory that would just barely make it possible to make multiplayer games within ZZT, but I've never had the courage to actually test my theories. The engine would be limited though, pretty much limited to RPG battles.

Well it is a good idea but one problem: You will have to take out the bugs in ZZT or else someone's board could crash your ZZT. Anyway, I was thinking more of like a central area with paths that lead to games. Like one sever could be an RPG games only area and one could be a free for all area. That way, you will be able play coop in the games.

If it is done right you could have a massive world. People could make "Accounts" and get a space on the main path that would lead to a "house". In a "house" you could have passages to demos and mini-games and fun stuff like that.

Here is mi idea:

Use telnet and VT100 terminal codes. Use only ASCII caracters 32 to 126 and only normal color or reverse color. Put curser on player. Hav extra commands for hu is alawed in, and multi-player actions. Remove a few stuf from ZZT and change a few stuf. Ad a download secsen that links to this web site bi HTTP protocol.

Ok, let me clarify a few things. By saying that you could submit boards, I just meant that as one way to do it. There will, of course, be ingame menus to let you place walls, edit objects, etc. The only ingame limitation I forsee is that you will probably have to ask an admin to add new blank boards for you.

In other news, I'm working on a quick mockup of the user interface to show what the game will look like so that you guys can comment on it. If I don't suddenly get a bunch of homework, It shoud be done within a week or so.

One last thing- does anybody have any experience in multiplayer games in C++? specifically, I want someone who's made something using internet protocols. If you happen to have had ANY experience making a massively multiplayer online RPG you could be REALLY helpful. I personally only have much experience making GUI's from scratch and parsers. The rest, I'm learning as I go!

Sigh, I'm late, but Saxxon, PocketZZT.exe? Somebody sent me that, and when whoever it was ran the server (which was only once) I was able to move a char 1 white on blue smiley around 10 or so boring, near empty, boards with only solid, normal, and fake walls. It looked neat though.

Hey rodger, try asking neopowerbrains on the Bang! website. He was making a mulitplayer protocol for it so I think he has experience.
