ZZT online!
A few programmer friends of mine and I were talking, and I thought, what if we tried to create something the world had never seen before:
a massively multiplayer online game creation system! (MMOGCS)
it would be called... ZZT ONLINE!
There would basically be a few main servers that would contain the boards for "cities" which could be made up of buisnesses, company headquarters, chat rooms (literally), adventures, and minigames.
It would probably be a loose similarity to zzt, with a mostly compatible language, ASCII graphics, and 2D board-based gameplay.
I plan to add a few new features, too like chat capability, a second character set for more detailed graphics, and anything else I can think of.
There is no development timetable as of yet, but my team and I should have a runnable test version operating by late next summer. If anyone has suggestions, comments, or wants to help in some way (compatability tips, programming, webspace...) Just post it here. I will keep you all informed. Hopefully, this project won't die....

Trust me, I AM trying to make this NOT suck.
Mooseka, what kind of stuff would you want from IRC? For chat, what I'm planning is something like, if you walk up to within 3 or 4 spaces of someone, you can use a key combo or something to pull up a chat window that would be kind of like a simplified version of AIM. I might also try to implement "cell phones" that you can call someone with to open a two-person chat.
of course, you will also be able to yell so anyone on the board can hear you.
To let the cities grow, People will be able to submit boards to the admins, and then they will be appended to the world everyone can access.
Once I have the file format figured out, I'll let you know so that anyone who wants to make an editor can get started. The built-in one may be a little- so to speak- minimalist at first.

Now, I like this idea.
BUT I'VE BEEN HEARING THINGS LIKE THIS SINCE 1998.

Uh... I like the idea, but did you say that you must send the boards to an admin?
That would ruin 80% of the fun! The funny part isn´t to chat, but to earn money and build stuff and buy TVs or stuff, and THEN to invite friends and chat... In other words: The player must be able to edit the board anytime and see the result directly.
