The Non-BS Emulation Site Thread

If you want to act like He-Man, grab a sword and stand on the peak of one the mountains in Valua then stick your sword into the sky screaming "I HAVE THE POWER!!".Then get struck by lightning just like He-Man.

The Non-BS Emulation Site Thread

Post by Stak »

This thread is designed to lead the emulation fans of z2 to good emulation sites. Emulation sites that have a good selection of ROMs. Emulation sites that don't suck.

Are you tired of Googling for decent emulation sites, only to find that every site listed is really a bunch of ads? Have you ever been flooded with popups, bombarded with casino and porn ads, and infected with spyware, just to find that the site has NO ACTUAL ROMS?

If so, this thread is for you, my friend.

For those of you who have found good emulation sites among all the trash, you can contribute by posting the URLs here. When I can, I'll update the first post for quick access to emulation sites that are worth your time.

And now, the site list.

:agh:

CherryROMs - Super NES
The Old Computer - Colecovision, NES, Atari 2600, Atari 5200, Atari 7800, Vic 20, Commodore 64, Vectrex, MSX, TurboGraphics 16

Yes, it's an incredibly short starting list. But right now, these are the only great emulation sites I know of. Remember, you can add to this list by posting good emulation URLs here!

http://www.emuasylum.com - all you need to know for pre-n64 roms.

http://gba.ouroad.org/index.php?act=newroms - every GBA rom ever.

That is all...

I'm not sure of the legality of it all though.

I tried it but it just seemed to be some text box-adventure game, I got as far as re-finding the crazy sandwich-eating man from the intro before giving up.

Well I use www.edgeemu.com for every rom, but they have tons of popups and you have to sign up. It's not that bad once you're logged in and you have popups disabled.

But now I shall check out funky's recommendations because I'm sure they're better than mine.

pe2000.net was useful. When that went, I wandered around in a drunken haze until I gave in and signed up for cherryroms. As for nes, I find that shitty geocities sites are the best.

I think www.romnation.net has a good selection, but the porn ads make me sick after a while. Plus, some ROM sites won't give out ROMs for really popular stuff like Super Mario Bros. because they're "protected by the IDSA," even though I thought all the ROMs were protected and we were just sneaking them under the radar. I guess they just remove specific ones after they get a complaint. But yeah, Geocities sites are good sources for the popular games, and www.zophar.net is great for everything but the ROMs.

In all honest you're going to want EmuAsylum over this one but sometimes who emuA goes over it's bandwidth they disable downloads until the end of the month, so http://vimm.net has nes and snes roms and IS PRETTY SLOW. It used to rock a few years ago when I was all NESTICLE <3 (unlike today's TESTICLE <3).

Ooh for a limited set http://qualityroms.com (might be .net i'm not sure) isn't that bad. They have the major major games for NES, SNES, and GENS covered.

Lastly if you're looking for rom hacks that aren't <a href=http://i-mockery.com/romhacks/nudepunch ... .php">NUDE PUNCH OUT</a>, <a href="http://i-mockery.com/romhacks/pussycity ... php">PUSSY CITY PIMPS</a>, or the infamous <a href="http://i-mockery.com/romhacks/discomari ... php">DISCO MARIO</a>, then you'll want http://cg-games.net/ and Dragon Eye Studios (an affiliate on cg-games). They have some really nicely done hacks. Of course if you do want shit like nude punch out, I-mockery as you can see reviews awful rom hacks and has links to download them!

Planet Emulation has a hell of a lot of emulators and roms. Site's in French, though, but I don't suppose it really matters.

and I still can't find Monster Rancher Battle Card for GBC anywhere! I rented that from Blockbuster and loved it. Then they stopped renting game boy games.

Also I would like to add that there was one point where I didn't know anything about rom sites, so I used this topsites thing where they rank sites according to how many people are tricked into voting for them. And I realized that some sites would be like 'NO BULLSHIT!' so I did a ctrl-f for 'bullshit' to find ones to visit.

There was a really good one that had a lot of roms and a little review for each one. That site exploded a few years ago and I've been a sad panda ever since. Does anyone remember a site like that?
