Today, we'll make new randosity out of old catchphrases.

Post by Scribbit »

So, I came up with a game a while back to take old catchphrases off the list on ZUltimate and make sentences out of them. How many other sentences can you make out of catchphrases? They need not all be ZZT catchphrases as long as they're well known.

You can't make an omelet without wtf cat.

RULE #11: Who controls the past controls the future, who controls the present controls the past

You read the sagas! You played the old community themed games! Why it's just like you were with us in #darkdigital! That's great! Too bad it's not 1999 anymore. Your knowledge of the past is useless and only makes you look like an idiot unless you were around for that. So leave your GREEN IS EVIL back in the 20th century. This is the FYOOOOOOOOOOTURE. We have flying cars here.

Honestly, I can never seem to figure out what here is ancient history and what happened just before I discovered the forums. And the old community themed games still confuse me to no end.

As far as I can tell, I've fulfilled my childhood daydream to stumble upon a forgotten community of nerds and join them. I really had daydreams like that. They were before I knew much about the internet, of course, so I imagined everyone sitting together in a computer lab atop a mountain, but ehh.

I mean, in real life my social skills are pretty terrible, but here the rules are completely different! If ZZT is dead, maybe it's because nobody new feels welcome here!

Okay, rant over. Bottom line: I can't make sense of much here, and yet apparently I'm persistent enough to keep coming back and trying to figure out the rules here by trial and error.

As honored as I am to fulfill your childhood dream about being one of the "nerds atop a mountain"...

Dang, I learned more from those two posts than from all the constant inane questions I've asked lemmer and commodore over the months. Is there a link to those on the main page? Because this is EXACTLY what I meant when I made all those rants about how z2 needs to welcome people. While not necessarily welcoming, now I at least know what's going on.

Just one thing still confuses me... when z2 came back up after it went down a couple days ago I started reading up on its hosting and stuff... why do you make so much fun of Zaphod if he hosts your forums?

Dude, they're in the rules forum at the very top of the Z2 Forum Index. :keen:

Well, so they are. I guess I had began to assume somehow that the stuff under the Rules heading on forums was just a translation of the same basic community rules, just as the EULA that comes with many install packages can usually be trusted to be practically identical to one you've already skimmed. z2 clearly does not work in those guidelines, and for that, I am grateful.

I suppose we could make the rules a bit more obvious. Ought to look into displaying a "be sure to read the rules" notice when new users register.

Also, ZU article on Insidious.

Give it a warning in bold font that z2 is messed up and the rules are much different than most forums' rules.

Seriously, you people tolerate flaming and make fun of serious projects. New people need to be prepared for that or they'll either leave the community or rant about how terrible it is until they get banned.

Not that I have a problem with it, of course. It just helps to know what to be prepared for.
