Well unofficially the contest is still alive and well. We've had like, three 24HoZ contests since the beginning of the year, I think.

Didn't you host like two of them though? Two that were terrible?

Those are things we'd like to forget.

the fact the epic ignores zzt like a stepchild in a closet is symptomatic of the sad state of the american game makers. Value the past, succeed in the future. While I like the mod scene for unreal tournament, (Red orchestra) Really their last good game was as hyde said, the first unreal.

That was a really interesting interview. Looks like DMZX can still be useful once in a while. =P I have to say though, I really have no idea what Unreal is. I know it's a game, and I think it's an FPS, and that's about all I know. =/ Oh and I finally got a decent computer with like, a P4, 512MB of RAM (the lady didn't send the other chip; we're working on that), an awesome sound system, a good video card, and neat blue neon crap on the front. And a 250-something GB hard drive. I still hate XP though. Anyway, the point of that being, if I manage to find a copy of Unreal somewhere I may pick it up and try it.

I used to hate Unreal because it derived a lot from the game style they'd usually done games in before. But then I played it, and it was amazing.

I was sort of wondering what happened to gipface. He was all "LOL POST BAKC IN TWO WEEKS" on his LJ and then it stopped! His LJ is yet another grave, haunted by those transfixed by the shade of his old BATTLE RAPER review

And now he's blabbing about ZZT. It always comes full circle, doesn't it. Not that ZZT had much money-making potential for people outside of Epic (unlike, questionably, how Game-Maker and other GCSes did). It's sort of how like Julie Drefus whatever was in TROLL before Seinfeld; ZZT was just a beginning for Epic, and nothing otherwise notable for people outside of our cadre of gigantic jackasses (and possibly game "historians").

Also, DJ Jazzy Jeff. You can get a new copy of Unreal Gold for like $3 after shipping (I did!!! ! !!! !). Try getting it from Amazon.

yes, unlike you.

anyway, the whole visual-novel-people-having-used-ZZT isn't particularly new, either. I'm pretty sure haeleth was a ZZTer at one point (he's definitely mentioned ZZT on the visualnews forums at least once).

Then again, as Epic's first work, I guess it isn't surprising that many people have used it before.

EDIT: Also I've just confirmed that the person in question is GipFace as well (because that's the nick he uses on IRC)
