Basically just learn some basic music theory. Learn a major scale and a minor scale, and some chord progressions, and then just write something. Just search google for the terms I mentioned.

Or, here:

Code: Select all

C MAJOR:

C D E F G A B C
I II III IV V VI VII VIII / I

Okay, see the roman numerals? I, IV, and V sound good in any order, however, end with V - I.

e.g. I IV V V I IV I V I would probably sound okay.
This means, type #play cfggcfcgc

To make things more complex, scatter a few II, III, and VI around in there.

Then experiment with note lenghts to make something less monotone.

2-5-1! 2-5-1! All I needed to know I learned from 2-5-1!

Ferneau, I just stared at your avatar in a mesmerized fashion for about three minutes... Untill I realized something was wrong...

VERY WRONG

The gun still spews bullets even when it doesn't have a flash coming from the muzzle, i.e. it uses ammo even when not shooting.

What a crappy gun.

EDIT: I spent some more time looking at the actual gun, instead of his tight purple pants, and I realized that my above post is very wrong. SO never mind me.

So you're basicly saying use guitar chords?

Well, uhm, music theory kind applies to chords and notes and everything...

But either way, I think zzm works on chords anyway. In some manual or another it says that the thingys aren't notes but chords.

BUT EITHER WAY IT WORKS.

(And there is no such thing as *guitar* chords. A chord is a chord no matter what you're playing it on)

The notes aren't chords. A chord is the simultaneous playing of more than one note, usually at least three. The PC speaker can only play one note at a time, so to get a chord effect in ZZT you either have to alternate the notes very quickly, or use arpeggios.

Note alternation:

Code: Select all

#play tcegcegcegcegcegcegceg
This plays the notes C, E, and G very quickly consecutively, giving a clear impression of the chord being played.

Arpeggio:

Code: Select all

#play icegcegcegcegceg, OR
#play iceg+c-ceg+c-ceg+c-ceg+c-ceg+c
This plays the notes of the chords in succession, which has a similar effect.

The 1-4-5 chordal pattern applies to the modal chords of a major scale, not the notes themselves. If you're working in C major, that means the chords are C, (C-E-G), F (F-A-C), and G (G-B-D), or if you want a dominant chord for something like classical, calypso or blues, G7 (G-B-D-F).

If you want to make good music for your game. Then play a game! You know play a FF game and copy the music that intrests you! (or any game)

No. Don't copy music. If you want to make a truly good game, be willing to set aside any release date hopes or speculations, sit down, and work hard on writing some good music. It pays off. Or, as an alternative, finish the game and show it off to some beta-testers. Then, maybe someone will think it's a good game and would be willing to write some excellent music for you.

And please, MadTom, a music tutorial would be _very_ helpful.
