Did I ever formally introduce myself? I suppose I should. I've been a fan of ZZT for a few years now, but I'm still in my teens and was a bit intimidated at first when I saw that everyone else here joined in the late 60s. So for a while I contented myself with the classics. I've grown up a bit since then and decided to join the wonderful world that is z2. Well, mostly wonderful. I was weirded out by the emoticons and "Moosekia rules with an iron fist," but I liked what was going on. After my first few games died out before I really got rolling, I decided maybe I should talk to someone else and ask for ideas, and maybe that would keep me focused long enough to finish something.
I have two brothers and some friends that sometimes help me playtest my current project, PortalZZT. I also like Icehouse, Homestar Runner, OOTS, 8-bit theater, and I play dungeons and dragons with my friends when we manage to arrange a play night without someone canceling or forgetting. I'm not too good at remembering celebrities' names (or anyone's for that matter), I don't watch a lot of si-fi, and the only real programming language I know is Java(I'm assuming ZZT-OOP, Pascal, and TI-83+ Basic don't count). So, I'm sorta geeky, but I miss a lot of references.
I discovered ZZT when looking for a simpler alternative to the OHRRPGCE for making games, and recently discovered the reason for my attraction to ZZT, as well as several other hobbies: It's all about doing more with less. Designing cool games with only a handful of built-in tools? More with Less. Making pretty shapes with a loop of yarn? More with Less. Ascii art? Boondoggle? Icehouse? Harmonicas? All hobbies of mine at one point or another.
MY LIFE IS STARTING TO HAVE A MEANING, AND ZZT IS FUELING IT!!!
oh, and this means I now have an excuse to use one of those wacky emoticons.
I should probably copy this rant onto my ZUltimate profile page that I have now because I think wikis are great and I rant a lot. I'll go do that.
Also?
*ducks in case anyone was offended by the comment about ZZT-OOP.*
