<a href="http://www.botanical.com/botanical/mgmh ... >Sassafras can be quite poisonous</a>, so drinking lots of sassafras root beer can be unhealthy.

On the other hand, stuff like A&W is probably only about as bad as other sodas, which still isn't saying all that much!

I never quite got this, but is root beer the same as Ginger Ale? That's pretty damned good stuff, really.

I still prefer "real" beer, though. =P

Root beer and ginger ale are different beverages, Hercules.

And to be on topic here, I think root beer tastes terrible. Ginger ale and cream soda are better, as far as soft drinks go.

when i was about two back in the day, when i'd visit my grandmother's flat, there was a BIG SLIDE outside, which somebody wrote 'ROOT BEER' on the underbelly of. it was so awesome.

checking back in 2001, it was still there, and hadn't faded.

and somebody wrote 'JESUS CRISIS' on the front of the climbing spider at my grammar school when i was about 6, which i thought was awesome.

Stiltzkin -- aha. In that case, I've never had root beer. It's not something we know here in Holland. They probably sell it somewhere, but it's rare...

Yeah this is at my school.

This one girl insisted that there are roots in root beer, and this guy didn't believe her.

So they bet money on it. They called the root beer company and asked. They were told that there were root extracts.

And the guy wouldn't pay because the operator said 'root extracts' and not 'roots'.

I think that's how the story went.
