But I do realize that I'm being very hostile towards this and I apologize. It's just that to me, rage faces are so much generic dreck. They're used as a lame substitute for an actual response, and they're used everywhere in everything whether or not they actually fit. And the recent rise of this frog (and one other rage face I dare not mention lest I go berserk) just infuriates me so much because it's clearly a rage face, it's used just like a rage face, yet everyone thinks it's totally not a rage face because I guess it's used not for raging or comedy but for those sad moments which are clearly immune to criticism. But the thing is that it's been used, misused, and abused so much by now that it's just lost all meaning to me. So to me, anyone who posts that face aren't being genuine; they're just mindlessly going with what's popular. But again, that's just me.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not heartless; for one thing, Burger Joint is a great ZZT game and it'd be nice if it was possible to play it for the first time again. But I don't use rage faces to represent my feelings, as I feel they cheapen them. And again, I'm sorry; I do admire the artistic skill, I just loathe the result.
..
You remind me of me when I used to rant against social networking sites and their role in the dumbing down of the internet/general populous.
Your standing on 'rage faces' reminds me of my standing on chat shorthand-- it's a substitute for actual communication.
People say that because it's 'just text' that you can't really 'get' what someone means by what they are saying over the internet... and that's not true.
But once you start using chat shorthand, or worse, emoticons...
I don't know, memes are weird.
Some of them survive beyond the point of even being a meme, like how the Awesome smiley was adopted as one of the icon choices for user accounts in Google Chrome as far back as 2013.
P.S.
----
"you will never play Burger Joint for the first time again"-- You think that's bad?
I played a parody ZZT game of Burger Joint before I knew about the original burger joint.
It was all vulgar and coarse and trippy and overly STK'ified... but it directly paralelled the storyline and gameplay of the original burger joint.
I didn't finish it... stopped after a 'random death' for turning away a dude selling "Taco Porn" ("taco corn"? but I remmeber reading "Taco Porn")... but I got enough, bears in the freezer yadda yadda yadda.
I never played burger joint but I've seen parts of it played... and they really liked it.
Impressive ASCII/ZZT art by the way.
