Re: ZZTV11
Hey Gang! Hope those projects are going well. My apologies for the last couple posts. I had lost all sense of direction! But it's become clear—the theme is time travel. Check out the new machine.
Specs:
● PC/AT tower w/300W flux capacitor
● SiS 85C471/85C407 R407e mobo
● Intel 486DX2 66MHz CPU

● DEC S3 805 1MB Video Card

● IDE to SD Card adapter
● 16" DELL CRT Monitor
Modern chiptune seems to be hitting the spot! Enjoy.

Re: ZZTV11
I wanted my last board to be a raw throwback. I imagined the player plummeting into a fight-or-flight mode and this came to mind.
The objective is to solve 9 puzzles and unlock the relics below!
I dedicate ZZTV11 to the authors of such glorious trainwrecks as E.T.

Re: ZZTV11
Oh man, I used to have one of those keyboards, they're pretty sweet, I still haven't forgiven microsoft for adding the windows key between alt and ctrl. It's a pretty worthless key IMO. I can't tell from the pic, but with the mhz indication, I can only imagine that tower has the "turbo" button.

Re: ZZTV11
Hah, TURBO POWER! Yea the keyboard is even better than I remember, especially without that Ctrl-Esc (Windows) key. They're simply built like a tank. This one's manufactured by IBM (circa 1984) before they cheaped out and outsourced production. Most the machine's components were new-in-the-box, like this lovely tower. Quite modern-looking, eh? I'm really happy with the rig. It's gonna come in handy during playtesting.
Now that I've got all my ducks in a row, I'm gonna get the hard stuff out of the way, finish my other project and do some artwork for Commodore's upcoming title Space Fork which got me on a Star Trek kick..

Re: ZZTV11
Yea but the keyboard is preferred. So I was digging through some photos and found this one of my old PC. *sniff*Commodore wrote:Also just noticed the gravis game pad. Does it work with zzt?
There's definitely some ZZT stuff on those floppies. Notice the Gravis Gamepad hiding under the monitor.

Re: ZZTV11
Let's pay heed to the oldbies and make stuff in the spirit of scene demos..
Atari 2600: http://youtu.be/XM1CbBePcdk
IBM PCjr: http://youtu.be/fs1oJOlPqMM
C64: http://youtu.be/zVPW40ygds4
ANSI art: http://sixteencolors.net/pack/blocktronics_acid_trip
1-bit music: http://shiru.untergrund.net/1bit/pivot/entry.php?id=162
Also, we need a 100 ZZT games in 10 minutes video.
Anyone up to the challenge?

Re: ZZTV11
This is taking on a classic arcade vibe! I suspect it's gonna be leaner and meaner more like the originals. In many ways, ZZTV is the spiritual successor to community projects like The Best of ZZT and 24 Hours of ZZT which are worth checking out. Will this ZZTV torch go out? IDK but I'm passing it back to its creator, our friend Dark FLR.

Re: Update
The first volume of ZZTV #11 is complete! Special thanks to all the contributors.
The JsDOSBox back-end is serving its purpose but em-dosbox just might be the future. The latest beta runs great in Chrome. PC speaker is really smooth on a well-equipped device.
Take a look.

Beach Squad has nice overdubs:Saxxon wrote:That's not hard to do, but you would either need a TSR or, if running in Windows, something that would watch the filesystem and act accordingly. Would be a fun project, but I dunno how practical it would be.Commodore wrote:Back in the day, my liver hurtz had an idea to make a program that detected when a text file was opened, to play an external wav or mp3. I wish that had panned out.

An author could assemble a minimally hacked "ZZTBOX" with custom music, font, etc. embedded on a webpage. I think there's room for growth in that regard. One of many possible utilities...
Edit:
@Quantum- Would your TSR be useful here? There's no documentation.
On a related note.
Didn't work for me. Pretty vague instructions. Anyone know of a foolproof method?Quantum P. wrote:http://kevedit.cvs.sourceforge.net/view ... box/image/nitrofurano wrote:how can we run zzt without having to type 'kc' (for choosing keyboard and colour) all the time? is there any command line option to add somewhere?
I bet the skip.com file has something to do with it. (here's a download link. right click, save as) No clue if Kev actually wrote it, or how it works.
edit: Kev wrote it, here's how it works

Jason Scott wrote a nice article about dosbox in the browser:

ZZT gets a mention.

Re: ZZTV11
Ahoy there, idiots! What an accomplishment to get this through the door! Thank you all for making it happen.
It's been a while... have some ideas for ZZTV 11.2 and am open to feedback. I really want to tap into the art of level design for this last-ditch effort. Inspired by the work of Kailin Zhu and Terry Li, my channel will be strictly limited to one (amber) monochrome board and should be completed within any given weekend.. Food for thought.
