Cannibal Isle remake is unwinnable

So, Janson made this adventure game called Cannibal Isle (not to be confused with Cannibal Island... which Cannibal Island came first, anyway?). Then Matt Williams made a special edition of it.
In this case, the original is better than the remake for one reason only: The remake cannot be finished without cheating. In the remake, the back gate in the village doesn't open thus preventing further progress. The original back gate opens just fine because it has objects; the remake doesn't have those objects, they're all sliders.
Why was this not fixed? Did no one care? Did they just ZAP their way past the gate? A shame too, because the remake's graphics are damn pretty.
