I'm gonna win me a watch

I wasn't able to finish a game on time for the last one, but that's ok, since the prize is pretty cool this time around!

I'm working on a roguelike, and though it probably won't score any points for graphics, hopefully it will be very playable (joystick only). The tentative name of the game is Katabatia, from the Greek katabasis, meaning "to go down," and often it is used in the context of a mythological descent into hades. Yes, I'm still working on S.A.S. (not the British special forces)

Though maybe I can get some graphical points for the title screen, utilizing what I've learned from zzt to make a rockin' PETSCII picture.

I was trying to bang this out for the past month and a half, just as school starts. I'm not sure I'll make the Nov 30th deadline, but just maybe I'll have something workable then. Ah well. It's been the reason for my lack of activity here. Competition looks stiff. I seem to be up against a good conversion of Super Crate Box.

Are you using the @ symbol out of tradition, or because you hate char 1/2?
Good luck with it, regardless! :keen:

The link has more recent screenshots. That old one is using the built in commodore charset. I use a custom one now with the ability to switch between animated graphical tiles and text-mode (with the @ symbol for tradition)

The @ is also char 0, so it also saves some programing steps.

Well I didn't finish in time. In fact I nearly didn't do anything in november that wasn't related to school or work. (not true, I rediscovered my love of Elite and wrote a circle drawing program for 64), but now I am obligation free. That is, except for work, but that doesn't follow me home fortunately.

So you lied. You didn't win a watch!
Better grab a bucket of water, because your pants are on fire!

My love of vinyl pants has exacerbated the situation.

Even though I wasn't successful, the contest itself was a great boon for the c64 community with over ten games made: http://www.rgcd.co.uk/2012/12/rgcd-c64- ... pment.html
