If the former, then YouTube is doing the transcoding, I suppose, which would make it dependent on what exactly they're doing. I've never uploaded to YouTube personally, so I'm not familiar with the process. (Edited to add:) DOSBox version 0.74 on my machine writes video captures using the rather specialized ZMBV video codec (at something like 70 fps, natch) and raw PCM audio, which would not be much of an interchange format on Þe Moderne Webbe.

I just upload the AVIs youtube takes care of the rest. It does appear, that it's youtube that is distorting the audio when it's converted. I deleted most of the previous videos from my HD so it's hard to be certain (kudzu doesn't have a lot of SFX) I do like how clean the videos are. In full screen it almost looks like ZZT, a few of those videos out there (how can anyone watch a 44 minute run through of caves?) don't really have crisp characters.
