Wow. That is weird. So, how about applying three simple transformations to the same message? Order independent-ones, so you can get the message no matter which one you do first?

Except for the order-independence, Germany actually used what you just described. Combine multiple trivial ciphers, and you get something that's non-trivial to break.

Cool!

I learned recently about quantum encryption techniques. It's basically like secret-key encryption, except that thanks to quantum mechanics, the key is random every time, and if someone else tries to intercept it, they corrupt the message!
