Quoting is unnecessary except in the following situations:
1. You want to refer to something that someone said earlier in the discussion.
2. You want to point out or reply to something specific that someone said.
For example, I believe I am justified in quoting Commodore because there are several posts between mine and his. I am further justified because I want to point out that part of what he said exists:
