I've come up with an interesting idea for a game. The only problem is I can't do music or graphics well, so the game will look and sound like dog shit.

I can't figure out how to take screenshots of my games with Screen Thief, even when I run it through ZZT Under Windows. After I press the hotkey combination, I hear the noise and it generates a .bmp file, but it's blank. Could someone help me with this?

well, it should generate a gif, but I assume that's what you meant. Depending on what windows you're using the "print screen" button works I think. Might not work in full screen mode though.

I've never had any trouble with screen thief. Are you using a shortcut to run ZZT with ST in the background? I usually go to ms-dos prompt and run them one after another. Also have you tried using a different image viewer?

Don't use the version that came with ZZT Under Windows. Download the older version available in the utilities page. bitman was forced to include a copy of Screen Thief that didn't have GIF support:
bitman, in the ZZTUWIN.TXT file, said: wrote:Unfortunately, Screen Thief no longer supports the GIF file format for legal reasons (i.e. Valla doesn't want to pay royalties for something generating no revenue)
So try the older one, and see if it works better.

And make sure you use the newest version of zzt. I don't use it to play or make my games (the graphics are warped, despite what everyone says), but I keep a copy around to make screenshots.

Oh, I'm working on one game right now. Pretty simple little game, based off someone else's, playing around with another alternative game, and bouncing around demo projects I never did anything else to.

Anyone need a title screen to start their game off, I got plenty of 'em.

Yes....It is comming out next year. DATE- UNKNOWN

Im working on a game with a space atmosphere and It will take me awhile because I am fairly new to ZZT. (BUT DONT WORRY!) If I think its crap I wont post it. And if I think its good I'll ask for testers and let them have the final say. When I first started my game, I thought it was great, then I played some ESP over and it put my game to pure shame, and I did not want that, I want a game that will be as fun as ESP, as cool as WINTER, and as plot twisting as KUDZU. Yes, that is quiet a feet for a me, but ....ya know.....Why post crap that nobody likes? Right?
OH THIS PLACE MAKES ME WANT TO WORK ON GAME! I THINK I WILL! SEE YA LATER!!! :out:

Good show. Everyone gets better as time goes on, anyway. Even if it's only half-decent, post it and your next game will be better, and so on.

Ah, I remember when I was a newbie, back in the 90's. I don't remember when, but I'll get to that later. I had a good computer back then, a brand new 486(no joke), I got zzt off a shareware disk.

Anyway, back in my newbie days, I made a ton of games. Good ones, albeit they were newbie. I made one game that was based off the original demo and was around 101 boards long. DANGIT my computer HAD to crash, and back in the days before i knew what a CD burner was, and before I had sense to transfer my games to a floppy, all my hard work deleted.

I know how you feel, Zguy.

...Have you checked the recycling bin?

It's the nonsensical quote for the day. Use it well.
