"speed lines" more like LINES IMPLYING THE WIND IS BLOWING THAT WAY.
I congratulate nadir for not using that damn shading technique on everything in the picture.
My suggestion is to have a happy character because they always look like they're about to kill somebody for calling them furry.

yeah the cross-hatching was sloppy and distracting and took too long so i ditched it
i don't draw happy eyes real well though i guess
i do angry, apathetic, cynical and mildly amused well, but not happy <:(

I'm no great critic, but it looks good, if a tad stiff. It reminds me in some ways of Jeff Smith's style, if only in the clean line sort of drawing style.
Drawing is a great time waster.
