It's a quiz!

Post by RobertP »

Has anyone played Callahan's crosstime saloon?

It features riddles, composed of a couple of words. The words are synonyms or defenitions of the word you're looking for. These words form the name of a famous actor or band, more or less phonetically.

An example from the game: "irritate, occupied to capacity, and lifeless" becomes "Grate, Full, Dead" - "grateful dead".

I made up a couple of riddles. All names of bands or solo musicians.

1. Dick, leg joint, grasp, deeds
2. Topnotch, crazy, core
3. Article, flutter, soil
4. Vow, (it) be, ruddy, tavern
5. Excavation, paddle, attire
6. Fog, inner-city, dupe
7. Confined, trendy, argument, flatus
8. Silent expression, grieving, raise, genderless pronoun
9. Bloodshed, unwell, girl
10. Woodknot, ascended, sibilant

for #1 I've got Pen-knee-hold something, is there an actor whose name starts with Penny Hold---? I don't know a lot of Band names, actors, or sports teams (which probably makes me useless for small talk, unless you'd care to hear about the properties of PHI.

Incidentally, that scroll thing uses a symbol that normally represents PHI: Image. Eh, it's a greek letter. Whatcha gonna do.

I tried to come up with bands/musicians that are not too obscure or too new (I find that there is such a numerous amount of bands that all sound like gang of four or some other band from a decade ago).

1. Early British Oi
2. 90's random pop group (and a reference to smoking crack)
3. Drummer only got one arm
4. Passionate soul singer
5. American Hardcore punk
6. Mike Patton
7. Experimental blues rock
8. Something involving a coat
9. Cartoon supergroup
10. Experimental metal

I went a bit overboard with the hints, eh, but you still get the glamour. :keen:

3. Article, flutter, soil (the - flap - earth)

Sometimes you have to pronounce the words as if you're actually French.

No, I think it could also be Cockney Hold---. Again, I still don't know enough bands for that to click with me.
