I tried it once...

I tried megazeux once. I played LOCO. It was as pointless as some ZZT games, but better graphics and more comprehensive engines. Then I tried to write my own game, and I discovered why ZZT has held on this long. First off, ZZT is about doing more with less. MZX requires you to use real programming. Z2 has a large, searchable selection of games, many with reviews. DigitalMZX has a single featured game, the others are listed by author, and I couldn't find the reviews. ZUltimate has useful information for starting ZZTers. MZXwiki has stubs, stubs, and more stubs. ZZT-OOP has an intuitive interface and language, with easy-to-remember commands like #move north, #change gem ammo, and #send object:message. Robotic has complex syntax and refers to something called the Sprite Layer or whatever, and the tutorials assume you already know all the commands and what they do.

At least until enough people figure out MZX to expand the wiki, ZZT has nothing to worry about.

I think I was ambiguous. What meant was MZX will probably be largely inacessable until enough people who understand it expand the MZXwiki. ZUltimate is an entirely different story and is quite informative.

Not that I don't think MZX will eventually catch up, but right now ZZT is more user-friendly.
