Portal - Dev Journal for new ZZT game

Post by DroneBoy »

I am working on a game called Portal. The basic idea is that people have discovered Portals made of Quantum Unpredictable Particles (QUPs) and have used technology to open them, making other dimensions available. Not all dimensions make sense, and most of them have very crazy inhabitants.

Here's the working title screen:

(Kind of crappy, I know... but it's a work in progress)

And yes, there is animation. The word "PORTAL" changes color, and the cyan blocks in the portal change character. Eventually, there will be smileys moving toward the portal.
Some might call ZZT-OOP an appetizer language. Not much to it, they say. I point out that one can heap on lots and lots of salsa.

Okay, here it is on Photobucket... although this is an updated screen :) (later and better than the first one I posted.)

What's the genre going to be? Action? Puzzle?

@Quantum P.: Mostly puzzle, with some action, and a little exploration.

you need to do something about those line walls, they look pretty bad. either use objects that look like line walls (they won't do that silly thing at the top of the screen) or do something else.

That blue was kinda nice, it contrasted the walkway. At least the line text doesn't look silly anymore.
