i made a giant brain to fight, and the addendum is going well. I also got more frustrated at the ambush part and threw an energizer there.

It looks good, but to be honest, it's less functional than the simpler version.

It'd be better if the game didn't end on contact with the passage-like object in the items screen. Not so much for the extra effort, it just seems uncalled for.

Is it possible to send the player back to the menu engine without messing it up? If not, the player should probably know what's going to happen when he looks at the items.

I have to agree with RobertP -- the new menu does less, and we don't gain anything:

Start the game:
Old menu: right right
New menu: right right any

View the items page:
Old menu: down right right
New menu: right down right any

I do appreciate the effort to improve the menu, though. I just think it needs only a few minor graphical touches.

Also, @Commodore: I like the giant brain and 2001-style additions to the ending (though I expect it still needs to be wrapped up?)

I will attempt to remove the first "right" in an attempt to make the amounts equal later on. About the graphical touches, dont leave it to me :P

well I do have a plan as to how to end the game after that, and I was going to do it, but what's there is what I was able to finish before I went home for christmas and I just wanted to upload to show I had actually been doing something.

You might want to look at gingermuffins's trick for instant teleportation.

If you can make the menu engine as efficient as a passage-based menu, and fix that bug where you can't return to the main menu, I can tidy the board up graphically.

Also, I've always thought "exit" is kind of silly to have on the menu: you wouldn't ever start the game just to quit it, and pressing Q or ESC is easier. Do we want to add anything else, like maybe a credits section? It would be nice to have something explaining how this game got started, as well as a statement of who focused on which sections of the game.

coming back home tomorrow. Work the next day but then two off after that. Should be finished then. What's the deal with this new menu? I haven't gotten a chance to look at it here.

And maybe credits/ explanation is best handled in the txt.
