Re: JZT Sound issues
Interesting "take" on ZZT. It's a decent idea, having it be Java-based. I ran it from the latest Firefox, and the sound seemed decent until a few minutes in. Then, the sound got slow with a garbled "staccato" effect. Any ideas why that would happen? Also: does saving work? JZT di...

ZZT Ultra, improving speed and performance
Over the holidays, I discovered that ZZT Ultra was running into serious performance-related issues with some of the ZZT-OOP code processing and drawing. I've been making a lot of improvements. Conveyors were iterating REALLY slowly because label navigation performed a text search every time (for pre...

ZZT behavior, JSON-style
ZZT Ultra favors behavior that is defined by content whenever possible, as opposed to hard-coding. Most of the business logic of the game engine is designed to fit into one of these two files: zzt_guis.txt and zzt_obs.txt. The demo Flash file makes use of the two prototype files located at the follo...

ZZT Ultra prototype ready
Even though the site is far from being up and running, I can still post a development copy of ZZT Ultra. Play it here: http://www.chriskallen.com/zzt/ZZTUltra.html Click the window, then type 'Z' to load a ZZT file, or 'S' to load a Super ZZT file. Most of the debug menu options don't work right now...

Next Gen File Formats
I've experimented with a lot of file formats (even tried to make a small business out of it at one time, which flopped). Giving some thoughts to what a next-generation format would look like for ZZT. Probably the best way to go forward is to maintain interop. ZZT, admittedly, is pretty terrible at t...

ZZT Ultra
The (very limited and very buggy) first release of ZZT Ultra will not be ready for a few weeks. But here is something I've been able to do experimentally with the sound playback system. The #PLAY statements seem to work well with existing ZZT and Super ZZT worlds. I decided to enhance the syntax to ...

That's pretty cool! It runs slow as shit on my netbook, but then again, everything does :P Gotta get a new network card for my desktop.... Googling Kroz got you here? I hope the web zzt version you are planning will have the original ascii, or an option for it. What the built-in worlds call "l...

Flash version of ZZT
I'm currently working on a Flash version of ZZT, called ZZT Ultra. It should be able to play any ZZT or Super ZZT game directly in a web browser.
