hey cool...

that's what makes programming zzt++ difficult. tim is a fine programmer, but i think that he did a lot under pressure of time or something, because some stuff is just illogical.

i'll test with this and see what happens!

thanks,

On Centipedes Heads are always on the move and never stop unless there is no room to move. Heads normally only change direction when they are at a player axis or when they hit an obstruction. Intelligence determines the odds of whether it will move towards or away from the player. Deviance will infl...

uuhmm

commodore, i probably worded it wrong, but i meant what you said. another weird thing: if you place a head with a couple centipedes in a place with just one empty position -behind- the last segment, all segments turn into heads. BUT if you take the same space an keep an empty place in front of the h...

...

i programmed zzt++ now to only change direction: a. if the head is aligned with the player b. the head runs into something c. the head is "being deviant" otherwise, it'll just go straight. then, based on it's intelligence it will move away from or toward the player. i haven't noticed a &qu...

woops

easy enough was the understatement of the week... moving centipedes is a bitch. they don't move like regular creatures at all, which is what i was anticipating. centipedes have their own style, based on intelligence and deviance. but they never back into their segments (if any) and they like moving ...

centipede movement in zzt++ 0.8.48

looks easy enough, but it ain't. centipede movement. when you place a centipede on a board using the editor, you basically add a head and some adjacent segments and zzt turns it into a proper centipede. make a mistake, and the rogue segments turn into heads. behind this is a rather nifty routine whi...

credits

Euph, well, the license states that my name needs to mentioned. so i suppose i should be mentioned in the README.TXT and if you plan to release the source code, in each file where my code is used. just mention my full name and the website's url (http://www.planetzztpp.com). you should probably keep ...

zzt++ 0.8.47 available

i have made a binary version of zzt++ 0.8.47 available on planet zzt++. visit the download page to get it. this executable demonstrates a couple of new features, namely the basic object movement and the ability to store boards in memory after the player has left them. play a game (with at least 5 bo...

the point

there's no real point. i just thought i could and i started off. i got started on zzt++ when windows98 was just out. after that windows ME, 2000 and XP followed and it still runs. look at zzt itself; it was made in 1991 when win3.1 was hot. zzt still runs under xp. true, there will be a time when 16...

has to

you're right. nothing has to. but i'm not doing this because i have to. the goal of the project is to recreate zzt as close to the original as possible. when it's done there will probably be an SDL based version. but for now, i'm just having fun learning how a computer really works. no matter how fa...

keyboard buffer

hi, the keyboard buffer's head pointer is stored at location 40:1A and its tail pointer at 40:1C. this is bios memory. remember that the windows or dos keyboard driver is already messing with this buffer through INT9. also, the keyboard buffer contains scan codes (not ascii character codes). it cont...

2000

i just can't get this zzt++ thing out of my system. a lot of stuff has happened since last year. hell, i'm going to be a father! there's no limit to what modern science can do, even for a 2000 year old. i've been thinking of posting something on planetzztpp.com, but i don't know what. i'll put up so...
