Re: I missed all this...
Welcome! Glad you could find ZZT after all these years :-) Regarding the game that you're trying to remember: it wasn't Lebensraum , was it? It's not DOOM, but it is heavily inspired by Wolfenstein 3D, and it does have some boards where the walls have brown gradients with a sense of depth. I don't k...

Re: Rebooting the ZZT wiki
As it grows, maybe! It depends on the nature of the tips and tricks: For involved discussions and other long-form content, it might make more sense to publish it as a guest article to the Museum of ZZT. For example, Dr. Dos wrote articles on how to set up KevEdit and Zeta , and a few different autho...

Rebooting the ZZT wiki
Previously, we had a wiki named ZUltimate. It was less a wiki about ZZT itself and more a wiki for the community, and it eventually got shut down because people started reporting harassment over personal information it contained. That was back in... 2018. So it's been a while. So I'm launching anoth...

Re: Linux port of reconstruction, now in C/C++
That seems about right to me. Applying this to a couple of out-of-bounds memory bugs I can think of off the top of my head: Weird messages displayed by black keys/doors. IIRC this is caused by black's index being zero and the array of color names starting at one. The stuff before and after ColorName...

Re: Linux port of reconstruction, now in C/C++
I like the idea of testcases for ZZT's behavior using known inputs/outputs, especially stuff like hashing in-memory states. Automated testing isn't a panacea, but it would give you a way to measure whether or not the port is accurate. As for where to draw the line for which bugs to support (arbitrar...

Making a toolkit
So. It's the year 2020, and I'm making a toolkit: toolkit-prototype.png What's in it: Top left: Color combinations for normal/breakable/water Left: Fake walls, line walls Slightly to the right of the middle: the 16-color section. These are all items for which ZZT has a default color, so you need 15+...

Re: player turned into lion by conveyor
Conveyors are known to be buggy, and under certain circumstances (around which I'm fuzzy) they can do things like delete stat objects. Since keyboard input wasn't working at all, your end result must have been a player-colored lion (as opposed to a lion-charred player), because the player is what ac...

Re: T637 ?
Yeah, repairs are in progress. PHP's original MySQL library finally transitioned from deprecated to removed, which means a bunch of site code needs to be updated. I hate the mobile view of newer phpbb Is it a functional or aesthetic issue? If it's the latter, I'm open to installing a theme or two. T...

Re: ICANN sold .org control to private equity firm.
Regarding ownership: I currently have both the zzt.org domain name and the Dreamhost account. Regarding .org domains: there's a lot of hand wringing right now because nobody knows precisely how much prices will increase. What we can reasonably assume: Prices will go up. This was already a thing: the...

Re: Boss Fight Books Kickstarter includes ZZT
It's not mentioned on the Kickstarter page, but it is mentioned on her website: Anna Anthropy wants to interview people who grew up with ZZT.
So email her, and you might end up in a book or something.

I did not know we still had that word filter.
I closed the browser tab right after posting (before the post loaded), so I only just now found out about it! Perhaps the most amusement I've gotten from it.
What I meant to say was, thanks for the files/preservation effort, H1.
